My Jesus Commissions

I’ve decided to put all of my Jesus artwork into one blog, as there has been a lot of interest in this type of work. The work shown here has been already published, but here, for the first time, it is all in one blog; illustrations, sculptures, paintings, and various other religious artwork for churches and for various publicasions. My day to day job was as an art teacher in Glasgow, providing an income for my family. I was always developing my art to improve my teaching, but I rarely took on more than one commission per year. These are examples of over 40 years of developing my craft. Artists rarely can make a good consistent income, but it didn’t stop me from taking on work, and it sometimes gave me an added income. My work here covers illustration, painting, sculpture, and church commissions.

Illustrations for St Lukes Gospel comic book

These are some of my first set of illustrations for a forthcoming comic book, based on the Gospel, according to St Luke. His Gospel contains more information about Mary, Jesus’ mother, and St Joseph, and his childhood in Nazareth. St Luke gathered his Gospel after interviewing firsthand witnesses, and it is said possibly even Mary herself. In the new television programme ‘The Chosen’, Mary gives an account of her memories of Jesus’ early years, and her responses to St Gabriel and St Elizabeth, to Mary Magdaliene. I would like to think that he met Mary, Jesus’ mother, as it is said he was an artist and a doctor, and that he painted a portrait of her. St Luke for, this reason, is the Patron Saint of Artists and Physicians.
